Slavery to the wall, and drift of the world in two and three dimensions. Paintings at the boundary between iconography and stories continue to function as an interface.

To answer the question of: what is a painting? and by responding in precise terms, paintings are:

In mental terms - a mirror reflecting oneself
In physical terms - the extensions of our skin.

These contradicting statements relate to the concepts of illusion and material in the context of art history. Moreover, in much broader terms it is relatable to the contradiction found in every form of expression.

To me, "painting" covers a much larger ground than between the artist and the work.In many ways I am able to reach beyond the canvas surface, to stand equidistant against the other. (In this way, paintings can also be said to function as an interface)

I strive to paint by alternating between the existing boundaries, while going in and out between the time of the self, and the time of the painting. The pendulum with the inconsistent “self” at the center keeps on moving by the energy of creation.

The endless questions of: where are the boundaries in a painting? or in more simple terms: where does expression exist? keeps on moving forward by being fueled by such contradictions and inconsistencies.

Finally, the canvas series featured in these books dissect the process of the fundamental making of a canvas from the wooden frame, nail, and canvas.

It is an anthology reconstructing a painting in the context of art history as well as a collection of the various shows from 2017.
